Ron Fletcher Inducted into the Hall of Fame

Congratulations to Ron Fletcher for being inducted into the ANCCSA Hall of Fame in 2023. Ron's dedication to breeding and promoting North Country Cheviot in the US is deserving of recognition. His farm, Cabin Run, is well-known in the pedigrees of the breed. He served as a Board of Director and exhibited at the National Show and Sale. He willingly shares his knowledge and passion for the breed to both new and old shepherds. We deeply appreciate Ron's ongoing commitment to the breed and its preservation, and we thank him for his outstanding contributions.

American North Country Cheviot Sheep Association
Board of Directors Meeting
Saturday, February 18, 2023, 1:00PM CST
Location: Teams
Attendendants: Chris Newman, Dee Samson, Mike Maloy, Noah Barkley, Michael Romanski

President Maloy called meeting to order
President Maloy made a motion to approve minutes from January 15, 2023. Vice President Barkley made the second and all were in favor.
President Maloy made a motion to approve the agenda for February 18, 2023. Director Samson made the second and all were in favor.
The Secretary made a finance update.
Fees were voted on for the new services the club offers.
1. Director Samson made a motion to set the fee for Associate Membership to $15. Director Newman made a second and all voted in favor.

2. President Maloy made a motion to set the website sponsorship fee to $30. Vice President Barkley made and the second and all voted in favor.
3. Vice President Barkley made a motion to set the classifieds fee schedule as one months for $15, three months for $25, and six months for $30. President Maloy made the second and all voted in favor.
The club reviewed the new, updated website. The club has been receiving positive comments on it. President Maloy suggested having contributing writers.
The Directors discussed the revised Bylaws and Code of Ethics. They are ready to be presented to the general membership.
Former Director Macqueen’s vacancy has not been filled. The club will vote on that vacancy along with voting on the bylaws.
The Directors discussed the All American Junior Show.
1. President Maloy stated his wife would be interested in donating an item she crafts with North Country Cheviot wool. Margaret Phillipson will donate a copy of her book about North Country Cheviot. Vice President Barkley will ask his family member if she will donate a handmade basket.
2. The Directors discussed a semen donation. The club will put a request for this in the newsletter.
The Secretary is working with Associated Membership to update the membership application.
The 2023 Newsletter is almost ready to mail. After this meeting, it will be able to be finalized.
President Maloy wrote up a letter inducting Ron Fletcher into the Hall of Fame. This and a plaque will be presented to him at the National Sale.
The Directors discussed options on how to support youth.
1. At this time, the club will not move forward with a Youth Futurity.
2. Vice President Barkley shared his application for the Young Shepherd award as a template for the ANCCSA Youth Award. The Board agreed that it would be a good basis for the ANCCSA award to provide funds for a youth to buy a sheep. Secretary will create an application and send it to the board for review. The Directors clarified that preference of the award funds to be used at the National Sale or purchase from an ANCCSA member. The secretary will make payment to the seller.
  1. Vice President Barkely made a motion for two $400 awards for two age groups. Director Newman made the second. All were in favor.
3. Director Samson discussed making a targeted donation to the club to support a North Country Cheviot class at her local county fair. .

Board of Directors Meeting

Elect President
1. Director Malek nominated Director Kessler for President. Director Samson made the second.
2. Director Barkley nominated Director Maloy. Director Newman made the second.
3. Director Kessler moved to close nominations. Director Barkley made the second.
4. Director Maloy was elected President through ballot.

Elect Vice President
1. Director Samson nominated Director Barkley for Vice President. Director Kessler made the second.
2. Director Samson made a motion to close nominations. Director Kessler seconded.
3. Director Maloy made a motion to accept Director Barkley as Vice President. Director made the second.

Resignation of Martin Macqueen
1. To the Board of Directors.docx
2. Brett made a motion to accept the resignation of Director Macqueen. Director Maloy made the second. All were in favor.

Nonprofit status
1. The club needs a new Articles of Incorporation to receive nonprofit status. President Maloy and Director Samson will sign Articles of Incorporation along with the secretary.

Bylaws
1. The Bylaws were reviewed. The directors were in agreement they needed to be updated. The group reviewed the current Bylaws and made the following suggestions. The secretary will send edited Bylaws to be reviewed.
  1. General meetings need to occur annually.
  2. A virtual option should be allowed to attend meetings.
  3. Meetings will only require a ten day notice.
  4. The duties of the directors and secretary need to be cleaned up.

Bank Account
1. Currently, the bank account is located in Oregon. The secretary will open a bank account in Minnesota.

Website
1. The secretary has created a new website on a new web host. The cost will be about a third of the current website host.
2. A classifieds and sponsorship section will be added to the website. The fees will be determined at the next meeting.
3. Membership information will display full contact information. An opt out option will be added for members on their annual membership application.

Social Media
1. Social media was reviewed. The club will focus on American North Country Cheviots.

Newsletter
1. The secretary will work on a newsletter to send to the general membership. This should be sent out as soon as the club can.

1. Director Kessler has been in contact with the Indiana State Fair. They are willing to host the national show.

  2. President Maloy will contact previous Director Macqueen about what has been traditionally done to recognize Hall of Fame recipients.
Miscellaneous
1. Committees
  1. The directors discussed the need for committees. It might be too soon to have a Finance Committee.
  2. Vice President Barkley suggested a Scholarship Committee for youth would be helpful to allow youth members to start flocks. Vice President Barkley volunteered to chair the committee.
    1. President Maloy made a motion to create a Scholarship Committee and for Vice President Barkley to chair it and for the other directors to assist. Director Newman made the second. All voted in favor.
